It's exciting to think that I will be a high school graduate in five months tomorrow! I have spent 3 1/2 years at this school and as I reflect on these years I'm happy to see how much I have grown. My freshmen and sophomore year all I cared about was being popular. Thank goodness I somewhat cared about my grades at the time also but I could have done much better. With my Junior year slowly approaching I finally realized that it didn't matter if I was "cool" or not because being "cool" in high school wouldn't get me into college or land me a job later in life. What mattered is what I did to reach my goals and better myself as a person. So I did just that. At the very end of my sophomore year I had a plan for my life. I realized that I wanted to save animals' life's one day and to become a vet. Everything changed in just one month. I got my first job to save money for vet school, I became a volunteer at the East Bay SPCA, and most importantly I became an intern at Bollinger Canyon Animal Hospital. This past semester, has been very different from all the other semesters. With graduation being the light at the end of the tunnel I have been trying as hard as a senior can try. Sadly, I no longer volunteer at the SPCA because I didn't come in enough and I'm on their waiting list. I should have gone in to my internship more but that will change second semester. I work at Pet Food Express now and I am learning so much that will have an impact on my career late in life. It's been a great 3 1/2 years!
My grades should be higher in a few of my classes. I bombed an honors anatomy test that I studied for but I could have studied for in a more effective way. I did extra credit that will bring my grade up in that class though. English has always been easy for me but this semester since I have a light case of senioritis I decided not to go two days. I missed work which shot my grade down but I learned from that mistake. On a better note, in my government class, I got 195/200 on my research paper! I missed five points for forgetting my rubric. OOPS! I was very pleased with myself and this gives me the confidence that I can write great papers in college!
I can't wait for 2nd semester. I'm excited for so many opportunities that only Seniors get to be a part of! To name a few Im excited for Ball, Lip Sync, Mr. Cali, my Senior trip, Leadership Banquet, Powderpuff, Grad Night, Senior Picnic, and of course, GRADUATION! I am also very excited for the Tri-Valley Leadership Conference that I am in charge of planning! It's going to be the best semester yet!
I have applied to the following colleges so far...
1. Washington State University
* 2. University of Minnesota
3. Oregon State University
My Smart Goals for this semester are...
1. By the end of the IQuest class, at my internship I want express the anal glands of a dog for the very first time.
2. Before I leave for college, at my internship at the animal hospital I want to be able to vaccinate an animal without messing up more than two times.
3. By the end of the IQuest class, I want to locate the vein on the neck and the leg and draw blood from them both successfully.
4. Before I leave for college, I want to see surgeries preformed at the animal hospital during the summer mornings and have very good contact with the hospital for when I come back to volunteer during break.
